Soft touch III

The Soft Touch sculptures are part of a series of works analyzing social norms and directly refer to a specific material – bianco carrara marble. The meaning of marble has redefined its role in visual culture and equated its status as a social object of desire. The obvious associations of marble with luxury and prosperity have led to a feverish use of this material to marble monuments and cheap graphic imitations as well.

The performative gesture of lifting and leaning the sculptures leads to exposing its materiality. Simple gestures make the objects flexible, pliable, malleable – they deny the original meanings and properties of marble.
