It al started in Tongeren, about 14 years ago. After serious illnesses of the friends Patrick & Herman, Gallery Phase was founded in a charming little house dating from 1850 at the Leopoldwal, 60 in Tongeren, Belgium. At first it was a kind of hobby of Patrick, who had contacts in the art world for many years. But it was also intended for Herman, to have further social contacts after his career as maître in the best restaurants in Belgium and the
Netherlands. Patrick was a member of the jury, “De Negende Maand”. The jury decided on art purchases for public places in the city of Tongeren. Amongst others, works by Nadia Naveau, Nick Ervinck and Hans op de Beeck were realized in Tongeren, the oldest city of Belgium. Gallery Phase opens its doors every Sunday during the antiques market in Tongeren, and by appointment. Afew years later Louise Gallery opened in Durbuy in collaboration with the renowned hotel-restaurant Le Sanglier des Ardennes.
Many art projects and exhibitions were organised, often with internationally renowned artists. There are too many to mention, but below some of our pro_jects: “The Ninth Month”: In
collaboration with the city of Tongeren, large light sculptures by the Austrian artist Adalbert Gans were placed on the Roman walls and in the church tower of the basilica in the city. The Opening of the cultural year, 150 years of friendship between Japan &Belgium opened at Louise Gallery in Durbuy by the minister president of Wallonie and the ambassador of Japan. Aretrospective with 150 works by the artist Pierre Alechinsky was brought to Durbuy. The Japanese sculptor Akiko Miyano exhibited her sculptures during the show. Athemed
exhibition ” Tomato” with 25 different national and international artists was organized by Louise Gallery. The galleries launched the career of the very young Loes van Delft from Amsterdam with her first solo shows. She is now famous all over the world. An exhibition with works of art from the legacy of rock singer and artist Herman Brood was realized. “Pop Art Never Dies”: The title of an exhibition with various pop art artists including works by legend Andy Warhol René Magritte: Aretrospective of never- exposed original drawings and photographs by the artist. Panamarenko: Anice overview of 50 years of art works by this marvelous artist. Koen Vanmechelen: D.N.A. Do Not Argue, a solo show with the artist @ Louise Gallery Fred Bervoets: Solo shows with this legendary artist in both galleries Prix de Rome winner Serge Gangolf exhibited in Tongeren and Durbuy. Halleux does his second solo exhibition in Durbuy in the last quarter of 2022 Solo show with famous photographer Daniëlle van Zadelhoff. She currently has an expo in MoMa San Francisco. Other regular artists: Peter Kohl from Austria, Francisco Sepulveda from Chile, Ruta Jusionyte from Lithuania, Peter Devolder &Stéphane Noël from Belgium and Kiro Urdin from Macedonia. And not to forget our Glass artists: Constant Beerden and his wife Natalie Collard; He worked his whole life for the famous crystal factory ‘Val Saint Lambert’ and Giuliano Gaiger our Italian glass artist from Milan Italy.
