The Panevėžys Civic Art Gallery is the longest-operating visual arts center in the Aukštaitija region and a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC). The gallery is renowned for its international ceramics symposiums and its unique collection of stoneware ceramics, which is unparalleled in the Baltic region.
Founded in 1990, the gallery comprises three sections: the Art Gallery, the Ceramics Pavilion, and the Photography Gallery, all located in the historic center of Panevėžys. The total exhibition space spans 1,026 square meters. The gallery courtyard features a year-round exhibition of works created during the ceramics symposiums.
In addition to the Panevėžys International Ceramic Symposiums, the gallery has been organizing the Panevėžys International Photography Biennial “Man and City” for several years. It also collaborates with the studio “Glasremis” to host the “GlassJazz” artistic glass symposiums. The gallery and its courtyard are venues for cultural and artistic events, including concerts. Visitors are invited to participate in guided tours and educational creative programs for both children and adults.
The gallery publishes art catalogs and other art-related publications. These materials, along with books on visual art in various languages, are available at the gallery’s information center.
Since its inception, the gallery has fostered an active dialogue with the public and art professionals, attracting both Lithuanian and international tourists. In 2016, the international website “Culture Trip” included the gallery in its top ten list of the best galleries in the Baltic region. In the tourism sector, the gallery was ranked number one among Lithuanian museums, visitor centers, manors, castles, and other attractions in 2021, and it was listed in the top 25 in 2022, according to “Travel Lithuania” research data.
