Description of the presented project:
The exhibition “Travelling Imagination” presents the illustrations of Stasys Eidrigevičius’ books. The architectural space designed especially for the exhibition displays works created for Vytautė Žilinskaitė’s book „The Journey to Tandadrik“(1984), Chosė Muriljo‘s „My Owlet Friend“ (1986) and Rita Repšienė‘s „Tales of Fairies“ (2008).
A rainbow made of bodies; birds bound by wings; a cat catching a frightened snake with a stick and tail; a bunny losing its right ear in a tear in the canvas; a bunch of flowers clinging to a miniature dog… It seems that none of the characters created by Stasys Eidrigevičius can exist as a single or separate body. The intertwined thread of the drawings reflects the indivisible, inseparable friendship, belonging, or dependence on each other and the suffering reflected in the motifs of confinement, compression, and binding. The motif of confinement is significant in Stasys’ work. It also reflects the artist’s childhood in rural isolation from society, culture, and childhood “real” entertainment, as well as his experience and survival in the then-socialist oppression.

Stasys Museum’s ambition is to become the beating heart of Panevėžys culture and an international art destination in the Baltic region. The exclusive combination of the words “Stasys” and “Museum” promises an extraordinary and intriguing experience. Stasys, the first name of the artist Mr. Eidrigevičius, is also a traditional Lithuanian name, representing the Lithuanianness of the museum and the strong bond with local communities, while the international word Museum indicates openness to the world. It must be fate, but did you notice the initials of Stasys Eidrigevičius embedded in the word MUS.E.UM?
