In 1968, the Panevėžys section of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union was founded, later evolving into the Panevėžys branch of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. This branch had twenty members. In 1993, under the leadership of sculptor Juozas Lebednykas, the Panevėžys branch of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union established the “GalerijaXX” gallery. The name is symbolic – the twentieth century + twenty union members. “Galerija XX” is located in the very center of Panevėžys city – in Freedom Square. The intimate gallery setting primarily hosts personal exhibitions.
“Galerija XX” presents the artwork of contemporary Lithuanian and foreign authors, collaborates on joint exhibitions with other galleries in Panevėžys, organizes international plein-airs, engages in educational activities, and represents the city of Panevėžys in cultural projects both in Lithuania and abroad. Every year, in July, the gallery organizes international painter’s plein-airs and publishes exhibition catalogs.
This is where the Panevėžys branch of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union is located, uniting 46 professional artists from various fields of art. One of the main goals of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union Panevėžys branch and “Galerija XX” is to promote and protect free creativity, the dissemination of professional fine art, its diversity, and national identity, as well as to promote the artwork of Lithuanian Artists’ Union Panevėžys branch members in Lithuania and abroad.
